Florida’s Kamaru Usman keeps UFC Welterweight Championship belt, knocks out Colby Covington at ‘UFC 245’ in Nevada

Kamaru “The Nigerian Nightmare” Usman, 32, successfully defended his title as the reigning champion of the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s welterweight division against Colby Covington, 31, of Fort Lauderdale at “UFC 245” on December 14, 2019. Both mixed martial artists are fighting out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, United States.

Featuring 13 MMA fights, the UFC held “UFC 245” at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States. The main event of the evening was the title bout between Usman and Covington.

Marc Goddard served as the referee of the title bout. He put a stop to the welterweight contest after 4 minutes and 10 seconds in the fifth round when Usman knocked out Covington via punches, which was the third latest finish in the history of the UFC.

Now riding an 11-bout winning streak, Usman has the second longest active win streaks in the UFC. The longest one is by Tony “El Cucuy” Ferguson, 35, of Ventura, California, USA and reigning UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib “The Eagle” Nurmagomedov, 30, of Russia, who both are riding a 12-bout winning streak.

Born in Auchi, Nigeria on May 11, 1987, Usman was 8 years old when he and his family moved to U.S. As an MMA fighter, he has been competing professionally since 2012 and joined the UFC since 2015.

On March 2, 2019, Usman became the new UFC Welterweight Champion by dethroning then champion Tyron “The Chosen One” Woodley, 37, of the U.S. in the co-main event of “UFC 235” at the T-Mobile Arena. “UFC 245” marked the Nigerian-American fighter’s first successful title defense.

Including Woodley and Covington, Usman defeated all of his 12 opponents in the UFC from 2015 to 2019. Australia’s Alexander Volkanovski wins UFC Featherweight Championship belt, dethrones Max Holloway at ‘UFC 245’ in Nevada

Fighting out of New South Wales, Australia, Alexander “The Great” Volkanovski, 31, is now the champion of the featherweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. The Macedonian-Greek-Australian mixed martial artist dethroned Max “Blessed” Holloway, 28, of Waianae, Hawaii, United States at “UFC 245” on December 14, 2019.

Featuring 13 MMA fights, the UFC held “UFC 245” at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States. In the 12th bout of the evening, Volkanovski challenged Holloway, the then reigning UFC Featherweight Champion.

Jason Herzog served as the referee of the title bout. After five five-minute rounds, the contest was left in the hands of the three judges.

Two judges scored it 48-47 while the third saw it 50-45 all in favor of Volkanovski. In the end, Herzog raised the hand of the Macedonian-Greek-Australian challenger, who was declared the winner via unanimous decision.

“I guess it hasn’t fully set in yet,” Volkanovski said in his post-fight interview. “(I’m the) new featherweight champ! I keep myself so composed so that I can get the job done that sometimes it feels like it’s not even happening. People are going to be partying right now and I’m going to party too.”

Winning at “UFC 245” improved the professional MMA record of Volkanovski to 21 wins and 1 loss. He is now riding an 18-bout winning streak.

Competing professionally since 2012, Volkanovski joined the UFC in 2016. Before facing Holloway at “UFC 245,” the Macedonian-Greek-Australian MMA fighter defeated all of his seven opponents namely Yusuke Kasuya, 30, Japan; Mizuto “Pugnus” Hirota, 38, of Japan; Shane “Sugar” Young, 26, of New Zealand; Jeremy “JBC” Kennedy, 27, of Canada; Darren “The Damage” Elkins, 35, of the U.S.; Chad “Money” Mendes, 34, of the U.S. and Jose “Junior” Aldo, 33, of Brazil.

Losing to Volkanovski at “UFC 245” downgraded Holloway’s professional MMA record to 21 wins and 5 losses. It was the Hawaiian MMA fighter’s fifth loss in the UFC.

Brazil’s Amanda Nunes keeps UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion belt, beats Germaine de Randamie at ‘UFC 245’ in Nevada

Fighting out of Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, Amanda “The Lioness” Nunes, 31, successfully defended her title as the reigning champion of the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s women’s bantamweight division. She defeated Germaine “The Iron Lady” de Randamie, 35, of Utrecht, Netherlands in their rematch at “UFC 245” on December 14, 2019.

Featuring 13 MMA fights, the UFC held “UFC 245” at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States. The 11th bout of the evening was the rematch between Nunes and de Randamie with Keith Peterson as the referee.

The title bout went the distance. The Brazilian defending champion landed eight  takedowns throughout the five five-minute rounds.

It was the most takedowns landed in a women’s title fight in the UFC, breaking the previous record by Ronda “Rowdy” Rousey, 32, of Santa Monica, California, USA. The former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion landed six takedowns when she successfully defended her title against Miesha “Cupcake” Tate, 33, of Las Vegas at “UFC 168” at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on December 28, 2013.

After five five-minute rounds, the title bout between Nunes and de Randamie was left in the hands of the three judges, who scored it 49-44, 49-46 and 49-45. In the end, Peterson raised the hand of the Brazilian defending champ, who was declared the winner via unanimous decision.

Cook Islands’ Tajiya Eikura Sahay wins Miss World Oceania 2019 crown in England

Tajiya Eikura Sahay, 26, of Cook Islands was crowned Miss World Oceania 2019 on December 14, 2019. She succeeded Jessica Tyson, 25, of New Zealand.

Sahay was born in Brisbane, Australia where she earned her Diploma in Early Childhood Education. After working in Brisbane as an early childhood educator for eight years, she moved to Cook Islands in 2016.

Currently, Sahay is studying Nutrition, Health and Fitness. She is also a Red Cross Cook Islands volunteer, netball coach, personal trainer and group fitness instructor for children and adults.

Hailing from Avarua, Cook Islands, Sahay was one of the 111 candidates who competed in Miss World 2019. It was the 69th edition of the oldest running international beauty pageant in the world.

Ramey is a model, dancer, saxophonist, activist and national volleyball player. She was crowned Miss Trinidad and Tobago 2019 at the Naparima Bowl in San Fernando, Trinidad and Tobago on June 16, 2019.

Representing Jamaica, Toni-Ann Singh, 23, was crowned Miss World 2019 at the ExCeL London in London, England on December 14, 2019. She bested 110 other candidates from around the world.

This made Singh the fourth Miss World from Jamaica. The first three were Carole Crawford, Cindy Breakspeare and Lisa Hanna, who were crowned in 1963, 1976 and 1993, respectively.

Representing Espirito Santo, Brazil, Miele was crowned Miss Mundo Brasil 2019 (Miss World Brazil 2019) on September 3, 2019 at Dall’Onder Grande Hotel, in Bento Gonçalves, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. She was crowned by Miss World Brazil 2018 Jessica Carvalho, who did not place in Miss World 2018.

Born on December 30, 1998, Miele attended Colégio Técnico São Francisco Xavier in São Paolo, Brazil. She was only 13 years old when she was named a Girl Outdoor Ipatinga.

In 2013, Miele completed her professional modeling course and joined in Miss Ipatinga Teen. The Brazilian model finished in the Top 10.
